Smog Depot Solana Beach Smog Depot Solana Beach, powered by DRIVE AutoCare, is a Star Certified Test & Repair Inspection Station licensed by the State of California. In California, vehicles must undergo a biennial smog inspection in order to renew your registration. New residents of California will be required to have an initial inspection to register, even if you have a current certificate from your previous state. Smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles 1997 and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight of more than 14,000 lbs; electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs; or motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older.
